WIC Kate Muir Student Encouragement Award

Congratulations to Darlene Widjaja

Darlene has studied Digital Technologies at Burgman College, focusing on Web Development and Game design. During her game design unit she created a game project that examines and educates around hikikomori and the journey of recovery from mental health. Darlene submitted her game design project to the Young ICT Explorers competition which received third place in the ACT. Darlene also presented her project to a group of industry professionals from the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, who were very impressed with her work. During college Darlene spent time volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul and supports Burgman College in raising collections and donating books to the Lifeline Book Fair. She also plays badminton as a member of the Amaroo Badminton Club. Darlene is studying at the University of Canberra with a focus on user experience and design.

About the Award

WIC is a Canberra based not-for-profit organisation bringing people together to champion women in Information and Communication. Our vision is to be the premier organisation for women in Information and Communication in Canberra. As part of this vision, WIC has set up the WIC Student Encouragement Award. The award will be presented at the WIC Award Evening on the 4th of November, 2020 at our Virtual Dinner Debate Evening.

Each year, WIC recognises the achievements of a young female secondary school student and awards them a financial contribution to assist with their tertiary studies in Information, Communications and Technology.
