Showing students just how fun and exciting a career in ICT can be!
The WIC Work Experience Connection Program collaborates with schools to assist students wanting to undertake work experience in a variety of roles in ICT. WIC will match students to workplaces based on a student’s interests and career aspirations.
The program is designed to support existing school-run work experience programs and schools are responsible for any internal or departmental compliance students can apply directly to WIC through an expression of interest form and will receive support through online and/or in-person workshops facilitated by industry professionals regarding work readiness and career confidence.

Program Aim
The aim of this program is to encourage and inspire young women and non-binary students to pursue further coursework and careers in ICT by equipping them and connecting them with real-world work experience opportunities
Program Details
Students (young women and gender diverse only) in Years 9 to 12 will spend five days, either at once or over a period of time, gaining work experience in an ICT-related department or organization.
The program will take place at the end of each semester

PROCESS

Schools can contact WIC to indicate interest at their school to participate in the program

Schools will undertake any required internal compliance

Students, with parents’ permission, apply to be a part of the program via an expression of interest form on WIC’s website

WIC volunteers facilitate a workshop, equipping students with the tools needed to apply for work experience, resulting in them being work-ready and career-confident. WIC Work Experience Connection Program volunteers all have Working with Vulnerable People registrations

A WIC representative will help students write a letter to apply for the work experience connection program.

WIC connects students and schools with relevant organizations, based on interests and career aspirations.

WIC checks in with students, schools and organizations at the end of the program

Myths about working in ICT are debunked – ICT now seems like a fun and exciting career option.
More young women and non-binary students pursue further studies and careers in ICT.
